Is Your Agent the Right Agent?

We’ve established the fact that finding the right real estate agent can make or break your real estate transaction. Buying and selling real estate can be a complicated process, but finding the right agent can ensure that your transaction is smooth and that you don’t get left with a bad taste in your mouth. But the big question is this, “what makes a real estate agent the RIGHT real estate agent?”
First of all, you should look for credentials. What kind of education does your potential agent have. Has he or she successfully passed the necessary real estate exams? Is he or she licensed by the state? How much time has he or she spent studying the real estate world? Has your potential agent done any continuing education? How much time have they had in the career field? What about their transaction track record?
After examining your potential agent’s credentials and experience, it’s a good idea to spend some time getting to know him or her on a more personal level. You see, organizing a real estate transaction is a somewhat personal ordeal. It’s important that you know and like your agent on a personal level. Your relationship with your agent should be both professional and personal. Why? Because not only do you want a professional helping you with your transaction, but you also want (and need) to feel comfortable expressing your personal opinions, your desires, and your expectations.
You should also spend some time organizing and mingling your schedule with the schedule of your agent. While your real estate agent works for you, he or she also has a life. Recognizing the need to be cooperative will give your agent a motivation that will inspire him or her to truly give all for your benefit. Spend some time working out the kinks in your schedules and exchange contact information. Be open to changes in plans and be open to the opportunities your agent presents to you.
Finally, it’s important to keep an open mind. As we mentioned before, be open to the opportunities your agent presents to you. If your real estate agent is the right agent, he or she will have your best interests at heart and will strive only to show you properties that meet your demands. However, it is important that you don’t limit yourself too strictly. Being open to a few exceptions may just help you find your dream home!
